Our BAF Abrasive Wheels Principle Course delivers a minimum of 4 hours of instruction and is designed to teach up to a maximum of 12 delegates, providing training for abrasive wheel machine operators, particularly, those who only operate hand held/portable angle grinders, disc cutters, bench mounted chop off saws, bench or pedestal off-hand grinding machines.
It is a legal requirement under PUWER 98 that operators using abrasive wheels are trained in their safe use. As an approved British Abrasives Federation training provider, Kentec Training work closely with our customers to promote awareness of the dangers and hazards of abrasive wheels, and to offer practical steps to reduce workplace accidents and encourage workers to adopt a culture that results in a safer workplace.
Delegates who also use Portable Electric Powertools on a regular basis, may benefit from attending our Portable Powertools and Abrasive Wheel Safety Course.
This course consists of a training room lecture, DVD presentation, written assessment, practical training and assessment.
The BAF Abrasive Wheels Principles course is intended for those who operate, supervise or manage the use of abrasive wheels on angle grinders, disc cutters, cut off saws, bench grinders and bench top cut off saws.
There are no prerequisites for this course, although an understanding of abrasive wheels and the use of angle grinders, cut off saws, bench grinders and bench top cut off saws would be an advantage.
This course is delivered by BAF (British Abrasive Federation) approved instructors.
The agenda for the BAF Abrasive Wheels Principles course includes:
- An overview of Health and Safety Legislation inc HASWA 99, PUWER 98, MHSWR 99, PPER 92
- The hazards, Risks and Risk Control Measures including Contact, Wheel Burst, Noise, Respiratory and HAVS Hazards
- The recommended Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- The types of Portable Abrasive Wheel Machines and their safe use.
- Resin Bonded Abrasive Wheel Selection, Identification and Inspection – Types 27, 41 & 42 (Non-Live Practical Exercise)
- The correct use, setting, adjustment and inspection of flanges, guards and accessories
- Correct Pre-Use Machine Safety Checks (Non-Live Practical Exercise)
- How to Mount of Abrasive Wheels on Angle Grinders, Chop Saws and Disc Cutters (Non-Live Practical Exercise)
- Written Assessment
Successful delegates will receive a Kentec Training Abrasive Wheels Principles e-certification accredited by the British Abrasives Federation (BAF) valid for a period of 3 years from the date of the course.
