The NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety course is one of the UK’s most popular and respected health and safety qualifications. Offering a valuable overview of the core aspects of occupational health and safety, the course provides an excellent platform for individuals who are looking to build upon their knowledge and skills and take their career forward. This course delivers a minimum of 68 hours of instruction to a maximum of 10 delegates. Delegates will attend the course for 12 days, covering all the modules of GC1 and GC2. A revision day is also provided for delegates to prepare them for the open book assessment and a mock exam will be provided.
Participants will gain a thorough knowledge of health and safety legislation and its practical applications during the course. They will learn how to spot workplace hazards and how to prevent them, as well as to assist in your company’s safety management programme. The course results in a real return on investment by giving you the know-how that could help you to reduce insurance and sickness-absence costs, improve staff morale, behaviours and minimise the potential for prosecution or other enforcement action. Our instructor will provide homework for each delegate to be completed and will coach learners through the course, providing understanding of content as well as how to practically apply the knowledge to their own workplace environment. This means when learners complete the course, they are confident their new knowledge can be used in real life scenarios they may encounter.
An open book examination will be required to be completed by learners in their own chosen space (e.g. workplace or home). Learners will have 24 hours to complete their paper where they will be presented with a scenario that describes a realistic workplace and situation. Learners will then be asked to carry out a series of tasks using the evidence presented in the scenario as well as their knowledge gained throughout the course. After the open book exam is completed, your instructor will conduct a closing interview to discuss your answers. Learners will also complete a practical risk assessment and develop and action plan for their workplace.

The NEBOSH General Certificate provides a good foundation on which to build your knowledge on health and safety, as the course allows for progression onto the NEBOSH Diploma, or the ability to branch out and specialise in areas such as construction, fire, environment and health and well being in the workplace.
This course is an intense learning experience and delegates should be ready to commit and dedicate their spare time to study and revision outside of the classroom. Due to the nature of the assessment, a thorough understanding of the English language and reading and writing skills are required in order to attend this course.
The NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is divided into two units:

A revision day will take place close to the open book examination date to allow for guidance from the instructor.
Learners will be provided with a learning advisor who will maintain contact with you throughout the course, and ensure everything is set up correctly for the open book examination. Successful delegates will receive their physical NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety once your results have been released. Results are typically released around 50 working days from the date of the examination/submission of assignment, though this can vary.
There is no expiry date on the certificate.
